Royal Education Award (Medal of Excellence)
The 145th Conference of Rulers meeting (day 2) which convened on 6 November 1988 passed a resolution to establish the Royal Education Award (Medal of Excellence). The purpose of this award is to bestow the highest recognition on graduates who achieve outstanding academic performance and for the following criteria::-
- Overall examination results;
- Co-curricular activities;
- Attainment of other awards;
- Recommendations and reporting from the Dean of Faculty concerned; and
- Good behaviour
The Medal of Excellence was first introduced in 1989 to seven public higher educational institutions, i.e. two graduates per university comprising one bumiputera and one non-bumiputera. Each award recipient will receive:-
- A gold medal worth RM1,000;
- RM1,000 cash; and
- Certificate
The cash award has been increased to RM2,500 and RM5,000 in 1995 and 2009 respectively. To date 567 graduates from 19 institutions have received the Royal Education Award (Medal of Excellence).
